"Signs, signs, everywhere it's signs," so goes the song. Look at any business district or any industrial area and you will find signs that tell us about the name of a business or the brand names of products it sells. Signs can be plain or signs can be really elaborate, but all are meant to serve the same purpose, advertise a product and/or relay a message to any target audience.
A.I.M. Product's signs can be easily mounted by simply cutting them and gluing to a similar size piece of plastic and then gluing the plastic to the side of your model railroad building.
Or, you can have the sign appear to be on painted on the surfaces of the building. It involves a little bit of extra effort, but the end results are well worth it.
- Simply cut out the desired sign, trim carefully, and make sure no extra white materials appear around the edges of your select sign.
- Turn the sign over and gently sand the back, thinning it so that only the ink is holding the sign together.
- Apply Elmer's White Glue sparingly. The back of the sign should be completly wetted by the glue, but be sure to not use an excessive amount as this will affect the outcome of your sign's appearance.
- Place the sign in your designated spot on the model railroad building. Gently work out any excess glue by rolling your finger from the center of the sign to the outer edges. Blot up any extra glue that squeezes out from the sides with a damp tissue.
- In order to get the sign snuggled into the brick or siding of your building, gently run your finger nail over the top of the sign, thus working it into the building's wall. Make sure all excess glue around the sign is wiped away, ensuring maximum desired appearance.
- Let sign dry!
Signs may be further aged by lightly sanding them with a fine sheet of wool and/or a light wash of A.I.M. Products Instant Age or a light application of A.I.M. weathering powder.
When you are satisfied with the appearance of your sign and the sign is dry, spray a light application of Dull Cote® |
